PACK EXPO: Dordan adds new resins to its Bio Resin Show N Tell
Dordan Manufacturing will be introducing two new resins to its Bio Resin Show N Tell at Pack Expo 2011, Booth #6007. First unveiled at Pack Expo 2010, the Show N Tell featured four bio-based/biodegradable/compostable resins converted via thermoforming with associated specs, environmental profiles, and cost-comparisons provided.
This year, Dordan adds two new materials to the exhibit: Klockner’s TerraPET and Microgreen Polymers’ Aeris InCycle. The first derives up to 30% of its carbon from annually renewable resources as opposed to fossil fuel; the second is an expanded/foamed rPET with impressive sustainability implications due to its light weight.
Dordan began sampling nontraditional resins in early 2010 in response to inquiries from clients and a desire to stay informed about contemporary packaging trends. From material specs to price point and resin feedstock to end-of-life certification, all pertinent information was collected to inform Dordan’s clients of the realities of these nontraditional resins.
Due to Dordan’s ethic of corporate transparency and commitment to elevating the dialogue about sustainable packaging, Dordan shared its R&D on bio-based/biodegradable/compostable resins at Pack Expo 2010 in its first Bio Resin Show N Tell exhibit. By including thermoformed samples of each nontraditional resin alongside associated material properties, attendees were able to see and touch, allowing for a better understanding of the application to market.
Dordan’s 2011 Bio Resin Show N Tell will include: Cellulous Acetate, PHA, PLA, PLA and starch, TerraPET, and Aeris InCycle.
