Chad Smith, manager of sustainability initiatives at organic produce company Earthbound Farm, admits that there are certain sourcing issues that still need to be addressed when it comes to using post-consumer recycled content in PET clamshells. But he's bullish on the prospect of using PCR PET as he looks into the future.
In this podcast, Packaging World editor Pat Reynolds talks with Smith about sourcing and other sustainable packaging issues.

I learned that Coke will soon be using PCR PET, this will create a demand and supply problem for your packaging needs. As mentioned on the interview with Chad, if their material falls short of PCR, their vendor will have to use virgin PET, which will increase the demand of petroleum based PET, which is no longer eco-friendly.
I personally have shifted using I Love Organic Girl from EarthBound for my salad because the packaging is made out of plant-based guaranteed 100% compostable while Earthbound still continues to use PET which is petroleum based.
I agree with you and have switched to organicgirl not only for the eco-friendlier packaging, but for the quality of the lettuce. Its really fresh. Plus wasn't Earthbound behind the E-coli Spinach scare a couple years ago? I tried Safeway's O Organic salad but the quality was awful.
