'Green' syringe will cut medical waste, reduce costs

Fast Company article features product design firm, Cambridge Consultants, and their unveiling of a new eco-friendly syringe, the Syreen.

“Shelled in an amorphous polymer plastic that acts as a protective casing, the Syreen erases the need for the extra outer packing normally required by glass syringes.Syringe.jpg

The Syreen will cut average syringe packaging volume in half, and reduce weight by 30%. This is a massive improvement for an industry that produces over two million tons of medical waste annually, and about 6,600 tons every day.”

The designers say this sustainable packaging breakthrough is easy to use, and will also reduce chances for needle sticks—a huge issue with both healthcare providers and those who administer their own medication at home.

This is a great invention for both people who use the needles (medical professionals and individuals), as well as for our environment. I love it! So much waste is produced on packaging alone every single day for products of all kinds.

This appears to be an amazing product. I wonder what they will come up with next.
