Eco-friendly PVC replacement introduced

Spartech Corp.’s new EnviroSeal™ is a family of sealable, polyester products designed to replace clear, rigid PVC packaging. According to the company, sustainability, high performance, and versatility were the key drivers for the development of these products, which meet a broad cross-section of PVC applications. The film is designed to suit individual manufacturing processes, requiring no tooling or capital expenditures.

EnviroSeal products are said to contain comparable physical performance properties to PVC. The products are available with pre- or post-consumer content, can be RF-welded and heat-sealed to film or cards, and are suited for use in food and nonfood consumer packaging, electronics and warehouse club packaging, and industrial products.

The polymer is designed for use in blister packaging, clamshells, produce containers, and display boxes and containers and is said to offer superior clarity, impact, and packaging performance. Three custom-designed products are available: XP20 and XP30, which are FDA-approved for food contact, and XP40. All three are recyclable in PET streams.
