Mark Caul is currently the Packaging Technologist for the Food Group at Marks and Spencer plc. He is responsible for all technical aspects for packaging, which are best described under M&S brand pillars: Safety, Value, Innovation and Trust. Mark has a wide experience of Packaging across all material substrates.

Prior to Marks and Spencer, Mark was employed at BNFL as a Graphite Specialist. He was responsible for a number of projects that input into Reactor Core safety Assessments and Long Life Extension projects. Originally a Materials Engineer graduating at Swansea University, Marks PHD thesis was 'Applications of Electron Backscatter Diffraction to Interstitial Free Steel and Copper' - from which he has seven peer reviewed publications. He is a member of the Institute of Materials and has Chartered Engineer status.

A key part of Marks role at Marks and Spencer is to provide guidance on packaging reduction, sustainable materials and recyclable and compostable materials. He played a key part in the development of Food Safe Post Consumer Waste recycled content in plastics and has written the leading standard practice for recycled content plastics. In addition, Mark has striven to set up the UK recycling work group, which brings together industry. Local authorities and government to discuss the UK infrastructure for recycling.

Mark is currently actively engaged in Innovation and has a passion for the development of new ideas for customer convenience.

He is a board member of the Institute of packaging and has contributed to the development of the BRC standard.
