The sustainability consortium
The sustainability consortium is looking to provide insight into the environmental impacts of products along the supply chain. From the supplier to purchasing, production, shipping distribution, and finally the consumer, what is the imprint left by the life cycle of a product? Since the sustainability consortium is in its infancy, expectations should remain in check as growing pains are likely. However, this does not mean that optimism for the organization needs to be tempered. The consortium, led by Dr. Golden and Dr. Johnson, gives those who have a passion about sustainability a lot to be excited about. Look no further than the six principles laid out by Dr. Johnson. The approach behind the principles and the consortium in general is to reach conclusions based on scientific evidence. This process, data gathering, patterns, and environmental impacts are things that reveal patterns over time. The hope is that these findings will enrich innovation and educate the public on the process of consumption. As data is gathered, I will be interested to see the conclusions that are reached.
