Smoked meat packaging reduces lactam pollution

lactam.jpgDSM Engineering Plastics uses low oligomer polyamide (LOPA) to reduce lactam pollution in BOPA film production and in coextrusion of PA6 outer layer(s) to provide a breathable, cost-effective film to replace what the company says is highly-polluting cellulose in smoked meat applications.

Lactam pollution evaporates and condenses in the form of a fine, white powder that adheres to equipment, walls, and ceilings, and is easily transported through the air where it can be inhaled by workers. DSM’s reduction of lactam pollution in BOPA produces a more eco-friendly solution to the packaging of smoked meat.
