CORR Web site outlines programs, progress

CO.jpgThe Coalition for Resource Recovery (CORR), a nonprofit organization and a project of Global Green USA (www.globalgreen.org), has launched a new Web site that provides details on its range of resource-recovery initiatives. CORR was developed to help businesses increase profits by transforming waste into assets. The mission of the coalition is to identify and promote effective waste diversion technologies and programs through conducting pilots in New York City.

CORR is involved in programs to:
 Achieve 100% recyclable wholesale packaging through the world’s largest food distribution center. (See story, “Recyclable shipping-case initiative launched in NYC.”)
 Develop recyclable coffee and soda cups
 Recover the energy in food waste to power New York City
 Close the loop on beverage containers
 Increase the use of reusable or readily recyclable single-use bags, when one is needed.

Through these programs, CORR hopes to:
 Divert 580,000 tons of waste per year from landfills—saving businesses $70 million in disposal costs
 Reduce greenhouse gases by 1.7 million tons per year, equivalent to taking 300,000 cars off the road
 Develop effective waste diversion technologies and programs, transforming New York City
 Influence the design of packaging and recycling systems throughout the world.
