A 5-lb soft-mesh bag (high graphic film 120-mm width) from Giro Pack contains 8.01 g of recyclable plastic compared to a traditional 5-lb poly bag (1.5 mil) with 10.26 g of plastic, providing 21.9% less packaging material.
According to the company, if a large retailer were to make the change from poly to mesh bags for produce packaging, they would get a five-year supply of mesh out of a four-year supply of poly—saving money and the environment.
Soft-mesh bags also reduce waste in the manufacturing process, and provide a savings in the transportation, shipping and storage of produce commodity items.
