B2B Reusable Bulk Packaging

Drew Merrill

Have you ever considered the amount of waste produced to ship or receive raw materials and ingredients?
Yes, it’s true, most of us are more attuned to consumer packaging (B2C) because our customers are demanding greener leaner materials, but what about the bulk B2B packaging used to ship and receive the ingredients and materials it takes to produce the final product?
The majority of businesses buy in bulk if they have the capacity to store and expiration is not an issue, which ultimately reduces waste by receiving one container in the place of several for the same volume of materials. This is a great first step (and typically more cost-effective), but could we be doing more?
YES!
Consider the number of trees and resources we could save by utilizing reusable packaging, specifically plastic collapsible bulk containers with built in pallets, to receive and ship materials. We’d quickly eliminate the need for wooden pallets, strapping and the cardboard necessary to produce the boxes - not to mention eliminating disposal fees and reducing labor costs.
This is just one simple step to help us quickly and effectively reduce our carbon footprint. I’d love to hear other simple ways we can quickly implement greening strategies into our B2B packaging!
