Neopac appoints environmental manager, prepares for ISO 14001

Neopac, the Swiss-based provider and inventor of high-barrier Polyfoil® tubes for the biotech, pharmaceutical, personal care, and cosmetic industries, has appointed Daniel Müller as environmental manager, in preparation for the company’s ISO 14001 certification, which calls for an environmental management system. These efforts are part of Neopac’s ongoing Green Commitment, says the company.

"We are striving to achieve Environmental Management Standard ISO 14001 in May 2011," explains Müller. "My role is to prepare, plan, and implement an environment management system, and to build up a useful control mechanism."

Müller says that obtaining an ISO 14001 certification will satisfy the growing needs of customers. "More and more customers are asking for 'green tubes,'" he says. “They are seeking to offer products with a good eco-balance that are safer for the environment as well as the consumer. In this way, they are not only meeting the needs of the consumer, but also creating an image of an environmentally conscious supplier."

In addition to preparing for ISO 14001 certification, Neopac has provided data regarding materials, transportation, the disposal of hazardous substances, etc., to myclimate, an international nonprofit foundation that provides climate education and Carbon Management Services and is a partner for carbon offsetting solutions.

After receiving data from Neopac, myclimate calculates the offset returns required, which, in turn, are used to promote certified environmental projects. Customers can then decide whether they would like to purchase CO2-neutral tubes and are prepared to pay an extra amount to support these projects. Neopac is already currently operating as a partly CO2-neutral company; it has adopted this strategy to arrange climate-neutral business trips.
